Dramatic and adventurous with a hopeful vibe

This follow-up to Raybearer was just as delightful as the first book. We get to spend more time with Tarisai and her found family as she embarks on a new challenge protecting her realm. As the first female ruler, she also faces extra challenges to her leadership, even though she has more than proved her worth in Raybearer.

I won’t give away more of the plot because it is juicy and surprising, but I will say there is the same great writing style and more character development. Tarisai also heals the traumas of her younger self in this book which is always heartening to read. This duology is dramatic and adventurous with a hopeful vibe in the face of difficult challenges.

I will definitely read these books again after I have made all my friends borrow them and read them too. I have already foisted them on my first unsuspecting friend and am excited to discuss it further.
